Colton McClure homer celebration

AC baseball ends season on high note, downs Frank Phillips 3-1 on the road

Rallying from deficits was a consistent staple of the Badgers' 2026 blueprint.

Amarillo College stuck to its spring script on the final day of the season on May 2 at Frank Phillips College.

AC turned a 12-7 deficit into a 14-12 lead via a seven-run sixth inning of game three in Borger on May 2. A Rowin Donaldson single, Brooks Carter double, and a Gabe Compton homer ignited the Badgers' comeback, cutting the Plainsmen's lead to 12-11.

After Will Jamison was hit by a pitch and a Dylan Ray single, Alex Villalobos hit his second homer of the game.

Freshman Jacob Gilbert closed the game on the hill for AC, earning his first career victory. The McKinney Boyd High School product escaped a bases-loaded jam on a groundout to fellow rookie shortstop, Donaldson.

The Badgers hit a season-high six homers in what proved to be the series-deciding contest. Compton and Villalobos recorded two longballs apiece, while Luis Gonzalez and Carter each went yard once.

Building on their comeback momentum, AC followed with a 13-4 game four run-rule victory in eight innings to end the season. The win marked the team's 14th come-from-behind win in conference play, as AC plated 11 runs during the fifth frame, facing a 4-2 deficit.

The Badgers' fourth season since the reboot of athletics ended with an 18-18 conference record – good enough for sixth place in the WJCAC. AC's win total was three games behind Howard College, which got the final postseason bid from the conference with a fourth-place finish.

The Badgers' 18-18 WJCAC record was their second-best since athletics resumed at AC.
