Kenney and Rosales take gold and silver for AC men in Lawton

One of the all-time great performances by the Amarillo women's cross country team was put forth a week ago in The Sooner State.

The Lady Badgers had four runners finish in the top-10 at the Cameron Invite II in Lawton, Oklahoma on Sept. 26 and seven members of the team place 20th or higher.

AC won the team title with 36 points and defeated the host, Cameron University, an NCAA Division II program, by way of a sixth-runner tiebreaker.

"That was the best overall showing by the women's team since I've been here," AC head coach Sean Hargrove. "It was great effort from top to bottom. The fourth and fifth runners really made a difference in the team race. If we perform well at those spots, we'll compete in each meet we run at."

Mia Lujan led the Lady Badgers with a third-place finish in a 5K time of 19 minutes 47 seconds. Mallory Moore was fifth (19:56), Ellianna Rohm took seventh (20:06), and Lylianah Flores was ninth with a season-best time (20:14).

Mia Regalado added a season-best mark (20:53) and placed 13th as the fifth scorer on the team. Danna Arriaga took 14th, Savannah Belcher was 20th, Beatrice De Santiago finished in 22nd and Daisy Rangel took 23rd in the 41-athlete field.

Sophomore Lane Kenney earned his second career gold for the Badgers in the men's 8K race, crossing the finish line in 25 minutes 34 seconds. Freshman Adrian Rosales was second (26:18), marking his highest finish of his rookie campaign.

Aaryan Katwal-Shaver placed 12th in a career-best 8K time (27:00). Brian Corona finished in 19th place (27:37), Dayson Smith was 22nd (27:50), and Noah Williams took 25th (28:14).

Chris Thomas and Jackson Knapp placed 27th and 28th respectively.

The men's team placed third in a six-team field.

Up next, AC has a bye week before they head to Hobbs, New Mexico to compete in the New Junior College Invite II on Friday, Oct. 10.
