Cross country teams place in top 6 at Aggie Duels

Lane Kenney and Mia Lujan led the Amarillo College cross country teams at the Aggie Duels as freshmen a year ago as each shattered school records in their 8K and 5K debuts.

The returning sophomores paced AC once again in their return to Lawton, Oklahoma last Friday.

Kenney, a Tascosa High School alum, placed 11th in a field of 67 runners. The Amarillo native cut his 8K time by 28 seconds from his 2024 mark. Kenney's 8K time (25:22) is a program record for a season-opening 8K.

Kenny led the AC men's team to a fifth-place finish with 108 points.

Adrian Rosales clocked the second-fastest freshman 8K time (25:58) in program history to finish second on the team and 19th overall.

Aaryan Katwal-Shaver (27:38), Brian Corona (27:39), and Dayson Smith (28:02) placed 28th, 29th, and 30th respectively to round out the scorers on the men's team.

Lujan, a Dumas native, placed 15th in a field of 86 competitors in a 5K time of 19:33. The mark was her second-fastest 5K time as a Badger.

The Dumas High School product led the AC women's team to sixth-place finish in a 10-team field. The Lady Badgers tallied 152 points.

All eight runners on the women's team clocked season-best times by at least 40 seconds and improved by an average of 1 minute 3 seconds compared to their season-opening times a week prior in Fort Worth.

Freshman Ellianna Rohm, a Hereford native, had the second-fastest mark on the team (20:03) on Friday and placed 27th.

Dalhart natives Lylianah Flores and Danna Arriaga were third and fourth on the team respectively, placing 30th (20:15) and 44th (21:08).

Sophomore Mia Regalado capped the AC scorers by placing 53rd (21:31).

Up next, the Badgers head to Lubbock for the Texas Tech Open on Friday, Sept. 12. The men's race is scheduled to start at 8:15 a.m., followed by the women's race at 8:40 a.m.
