Volleyball hosts Sophomore Day on Oct. 29

Amarillo College’s final home game of the regular season has arrived.

The Badger volleyball team will honor their sophomore class with a special ceremony before first serve on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the FirstBank Southwest Center.

Second-year Badgers that will be recognized on Wednesday evening include Jayli Franklin, McCall Sims, Abi Ramsey, Jaelynn Jackson, and Madeline Lentz.

AC enters tonight’s match against 11th-ranked Frank Phillips College with an opportunity to make a run at history. Scott Sandel’s squad is tied for fourth and final postseason spot with Midland College in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference.

Following Wednesday’s contest, AC heads to Snyder on Saturday, Nov. 1, for their regular season finale versus Western Texas College, starting at 2 p.m.

AC’s five sophomores wrote the letters below before their final match in Amarillo as Badgers.

No. 2 McCall Sims

Dear AC Volleyball,

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to play at the collegiate level and live out the dream I once prayed for. God has truly blessed me with the best program, coaches, teammates, and support system I could ask for. This sport has always been about more than wins and losses—it’s about growth, relationships, and unforgettable memories. A special thank you to my family for being my biggest supporters and foundation through it all. Your love and belief in me mean more than words can say. I couldn’t have asked for a better team or a better year to end this chapter with. Though my playing days are over, the love I have for this sport and everyone who’s been part of the journey will stay with me forever.

Dear AC volleyball,

Thank you for the unforgettable two seasons. I’m beyond grateful for the incredible memories and lifelong bonds I’ve made during my time at Amarillo College. To Coach Scott and Coach Meagan – thank you for believing in me and constantly pushing me to reach my full potential. Your impact goes far beyond the court. And to Coach Liv, thank you for your guidance and support throughout my sophomore year. I’m leaving this program confident, competitive, and hungrier than ever. My journey is only just beginning.

No. 5 Madeline Lentz

Dear AC volleyball,

Thank you for allowing me to live out the dream of playing college volleyball. A dream that once felt out of reach became my reality, and I’m forever grateful. After two ACL surgeries, I never imagined I’d make it here, surrounded by incredible coaches and teammates who’ve become lifelong friends.

This program has left an everlasting impact on my life. I’ve learned lessons, built character, and created memories that I’ll carry with me forever. Thank you, Scott & Meagan for always pushing me to be my best, for believing in me, and for helping me grow not only as an athlete but as a person.

I have endless gratitude for this program and the amazing people who have shaped my journey. If I could go back in time, I’d tell myself to soak in every moment, every practice, every game, and every laugh because I’m not ready for this chapter to end.

As always… Go Badgers!

Dear AC Volleyball,

I am so thankful for the opportunity to play volleyball at Amarillo College and represent the community I grew up in. I have grown so much as a player and, more importantly, as a person. Thank you to Coach Scott and Coach Meagan for everything y’all have done for me and for making me better day in and day out. Thank you to my amazing teammates for always pushing me, always being there for me, and always putting a smile on my face. I have met the most amazing people through this program and will cherish these friendships and the memories we have made together forever. A big thank you to my parents for being my biggest supporters and always showing up and being there for me. I truly could not have done it without y’all. I am so grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way. Most importantly, I thank the Lord for bringing me here and guiding my path. Thanks for an amazing two years. Go Badgers!

Dear AC Volleyball,

It’s hard to put into words what this program has meant to me. To Scott and Meagan — thank you for pushing me every single day to be better.

I’ll always appreciate the time, energy, and belief you invested in me.

To my teammates — thank you for becoming my family. All the practices, bus rides, and moments on and off the court were special.

Getting to play this sport in college has been one of the greatest opportunities of my life. It’s given me lifelong friendships, lessons I’ll carry beyond the game, and a part of myself I’ll never lose.

To my parents, you’ve been there from the very beginning — cheering the loudest, believing in me even when I didn’t believe in myself, and reminding me why I started playing in the first place. None of this would’ve been possible without y’all. I’ll always be grateful to be a part of this team and this program. Thank you for the unforgettable years and the forever-lasting memories. As always, go badgers!
