Badger volleyball to host Chaps and Wranglers for week 2 of conference play

Week two action in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference gets underway on Wednesday in Amarillo for the Badger volleyball program.

Amarillo College will host Midland College on Sept. 24 at the FirstBank Southwest Center, starting at 6 p.m., for their third conference match of the season.

The match pits a pair of teams that went 1-1 during the first week of conference play and split games the previous two seasons.

Midland College defeated Western Texas College in four sets and fell to fourth-ranked Odessa College in four sets.

In six matchups since the reboot of athletics at AC, Midland owns a 4-2 advantage in the series.

The Chaps (9-5) enter Wednesday’s matchup having received votes in the NJCAA DI National Poll, but sit outside the top-20. AC dropped out of the rankings after falling to unranked New Mexico Junior College (10-8) in Hobbs, New Mexico on Saturday.

The Badgers were ranked 20th two weeks ago and 19th last week before falling out of the national poll on Monday.

On Saturday, AC (13-4) will host fourth-ranked Odessa College (17-1). The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

Freshman Delany Galligan leads the Badgers offensively with 189 kills. The Argyle High School product needs only 19 kills to enter the top-5 all-time kills leader list.

Herford native London Baker has etched her name in AC record book, just 17 games into her freshman season. The Badgers’ starting setter currently has the fourth-highest assists total (368) in team history.

Sophomore Jayli Franklin is two service aces away from setting the single season ace record. The West Plains High School alum currently has 36 aces this season.
