Kenney and Lujan pace Amarillo XC teams with top-30 finishes at Texas Tech Open
Sophomores Lane Kenney and Mia Lujan led the Badgers for the third consecutive meet to start the season on Friday at the Texas Tech Open in Lubbock.
Lujan clocked the second-fastest 6K time (24 minutes 13 seconds) in team history and finished the race in 28th place. The mark was a 2 minute and 14 second improvement from her time a year ago on the same course.
Kenney claimed 18th place in a field of 110 runners in the men's 8K race with a time of 25 minutes 56 seconds. Adrian Rosales was a close second on the team, crossing the finish line six seconds later to finish 21st.
Brian Corona took 49th, Dayson Smith was 59th, and Aaryan Katwal-Shaver placed 66th to round out scorers for the AC men's team.
The Badgers took 8th place (out of 15 teams) in the men's division with 207 points. AC finished in the middle of the junior college pack as the Badgers were ahead of Western Texas College and South Plains in the team standings.
Odessa College edged AC by four points for 7th place while Garden City took fifth and New Mexico Junior College was third.
Lujan led the Lady Badgers to a seventh-place finish in a 14-team field. AC finished ahead of Region V members New Mexico Military Institute (13th) and Western Texas College (12th).
Odessa (3rd), New Mexico JC (4th), and Garden City (5th) were the top-three junior college teams in the women's division.
Elliana Rohm clocked the second-fastest time for the Lady Badgers (24:32) and placed 36th. Dalhart High School alums Lylianah Flores and Danna Arriaga took 44th and 51st respectively.
Mia Regalado crossed the line two seconds behind Arriaga for 52nd place.
