Jaykenn homer celebration

Williams and Curtis lead Badgers to game 3 win, prevent sweep in first meeting with Chaps

After giving up 18 runs combined during Thursday's doubleheader against Vernon College on the road, Carter Williams took to the hill at Hodgetown on Feb. 28 with hopes of continuing his promising first chapter as a Badger pitcher.

The Canyon Lake native, in large part, did just that with a professional scout from the Philadelphia Phillies in attendance, securing his third consecutive victory versus a high-powered Chap offense.

Williams hit 99 miles per hour on the radar gun and stayed consistently above 95 MPH with his fastball.

More importantly, the freshman minimized damage done at the plate by VC, ending his five-inning stint with six strikeouts compared to two walks and six hits allowed.

Fellow rookie Owen Curtis proceeded to close the door on the Chaps as the team's newly found closer. Curtis tallied four strikeouts, zero earned runs, and no hits during the final two frames of Saturday's seven-inning contest.

The performance earned the Salado native the first save of his collegiate career.

AC did just enough offensively to claim a 5-3 game three win, as the Badgers had one extra base hit and eight singles.

Jaykenn Marrero's first homer of the season tied the game at 2-2 in the second inning.

Rowin Donaldson's RBI single later in the frame gave AC the lead the rest of the way.

Jaxson Lindsey and Will Jamison provided some much-needed breathing room during the third inning with back-to-back RBI singles, giving AC a 5-2 advantage.

The Badgers were defeated 9-7 in game one and fell in game two 15-11.

Vernon earned the series win on Saturday with a 13-4 game four victory.

AC's record dropped to 7-12 overall with conference play set to begin, March 6-7, in Roswell, New Mexico vs. Odessa College.
